Jiangsu
Along the eastern border of China is the province of Jiangsu. The name Jiangsu was derived from the city of Jiangning and Suzhou. Just above Jiangsu is the province of Shandong while below to the south lies Zhejiang and Shanghai. The coastline of Jiangsu stretches to over one thousand kilometers against the Yellow Sea. Near the southern region of Jiangsu the Yangtze River passes through the smaller cities.
The land of Jiangsu is fairly flat and sits and a very low elevation. Flatlands cover nearly 70 percent of its total area. The majority of land in Jiangsu does not reach an elevation of over 50 meters above sea level. The weather is quite comfortable throughout the entire region. The winters are chilly but the summers are very nice. Average temperatures during the summer months are between 65-70°F. Jiangsu also receives an average of 1000 mm of rain per year due to its frequent typhoons and rainstorms.
The economy of Jiangsu is quite successful. In 2004 their nominal GDP was US$191.42 billion, which is ranked third among all the provinces throughout China. Their great success was received by the diverse amount of businesses they have. Jiangsu has a large irrigation system which is primarily based on wheat and rice. Some of the more notable crops grown are cotton, peanuts, sesame, and tea. They also are a large producer of silk due to the great amount of silkworms in the area. Besides crops they also have a large business for industries and mineral mines. Coal, natural gas, and petroleum deposits are found all over the province. One of Jiangsu's more significant minerals is halite, which is used to form salt. Nearly .4trillion tonnes of deposits are found across Jiangsu making it the largest deposit collection in China. All of this is what makes Jiangsu one of the wealthier provinces in China.
If visiting Jiangsu there are several activities to attend. There are many historical sites such as the Sun Yat-sen mausoleum, Purple Mountain, and you can even view the ancient walls and gates of the Ming Dynasty. The most visited attraction is Zhouzhuang, the water-town. The entire city is basically built upon a lake. A great photography moment is awaiting for you in Wuxi where you can see the world's tallest statue of a buddha. If you're into sports the province has both a basketball and football team to cheer for. Overall this is a great province. The weather, environment, and entertainment is amazing for residents or visitors.
